The Antique Desk/Vanity Project

Last week I showed everyone this desk.
I asked you all to take a look and it and help me decide what to paint it-- surprisingly quite a few people said "Robin Egg blue with brown glaze" Now, how did you know that's secretly what I wanted to paint it??

When I first discovered all of these wonderful home decorating/thrifting blogs a couple months ago, I came across this dresser. I LOVED it and I wanted a piece similar to it. This was going to be a big step for me... Painting a pretty permanent piece of furniture a COLOR! As you probably already know my standby is always white.

So, yesterday I took the plunge into the world of color! I painted this $40.00 antique desk from the 1920's to 1930's (I should probably call it a vanity because that's really what it is) Then I distressed it and glazed it. I used Sausha at {Show & Tell}'s method to glaze my piece and I LOVED how easy it was!!! Really, for all of you first timers out there- do THIS method.
The paint is actually the same color waiting to go on my bedroom wall, it is the PERFECT color.
It's called Sonata by Behr.

I am still getting used to it. It's pretty bold and not like any of my other pieces but I do adore it. <3

Here we are BEFORE:

This pad was being held on by one lonely little screw- YAY! :)

 First coat...

Some distressing with my palm sander...

I spray painted the hardware with RustOleum gloss black then went over it with some clear polyurethane

For some reason the chair looks blue-er than the desk in this picture. It's not, I promise.

  7. The black was way too dark for the pretty lines of this desk. The hardware really pops now. Love the fresh new look! Nice work!
