China Hutch Re-do

I have an addiction... It isn't drinking, drugs or stealing. It is an addiction to the KSL classifieds. I pour over the furniture sections imagining all of the wonderful things I could do to old worn down and beat up furniture. I decided that I "Needed" a hutch to store my not so precious things. So the search was on for a cheap piece because my budget is not very large. I found one on KSL for $50 dollars. I begged and pleaded with my husband to take me to pick it up with his truck- we got to the house and found that it was laminate wood---uh oh... It looked like real wood on the ad... It was extremely dirty and a little banged up PERFECT! I bartered with the man and got him down to $40 dollars. We loaded up my not so pretty beauty and headed home.
In case you were wondering-- that stuff on the glass was paint and i scraped it all off with a razor blade, I don't think I EVER want to do that again!

Put the glass back in and added chicken wire behind it. (My sweet husband helping me put the chicken wire in.)

  5. Now I know that ALL those lovely "wood" hutch's that I have seen on Craigslist are probably laminate, because they look just like this one. You did a beautiful job in spite of. Just found your blog...love it!

  6. this hutch looks tooo beautiful, i thought that it was good looking in its wood color but in white color, its simply gorgeous, too good and has been placed in very focal location, with its glass doors and cabinets, its a very practical addition to home

  10. The transformation looks great! Did you have to sand before your first coat of paint on the laminate? I have a piece that I want to work on, but sanding it seems like a big job I'd rather skip if I could! :-)

  11. I actually didn't sand it, I have it a really REALLY good cleaning with TSP solution- and used Kilz paint- about 2-3 good coats. Any more questions feel free to email me! Carisa.brisk@gmai.com

  15. OH.MY.gOSH!!

The twins were abuducted!!! I have your hutch's twin in my dining room!!! She's seriously still in need of a makeover 'cause someone done her REALLY wrong and painted her all brown....but with her low self esteem I only paid $50 for her too!

Ok...I've been waiting for warm weather so I can treat her right. I was thinking I'd have to get new glass but it's AWESOME that the HORRIBLE gold grid is just painted on.

If you can share any tips you learned PLEASE email me 'cause I'm really not wanting to scrape it all off.

Wow...If yours ever wants to get together for a reunion let me know. Mine's still shocked finding out she has a twin out there...

    ;)
