The Entertainment Center Project

Hello All,
I need to show you a project that I have been putting off finishing completely... My sweet husband bought me an armoire style entertainment center for Christmas a few years ago and I have loved it. The only problem was that it had very little storage area. And in this house we need just about all the storage we can get.
Here is the armoire:

ANYWAY, we decided to sell the armoire and find something that had more storage for our needs. After searching for quite some time I couldn't find an inexpensive (preferably) 3 piece center that would fit our TV.
Then it occurred to me! I'll create my own! Here's what I found:

This was the most expensive piece in the project- It was almost brand new and I LOVED the style of it. I got the price down from $75 to $65

I loved the "shutter" style doors...

Then I bought these, a three piece set of two towers for $40 and a top to connect the them:

The top:
And then... We pulled out the backs of the towers and put in a solid piece of bead board- this updated the look completely!

The painting.... This part seemed to take FOR-EVER!!!! I'm telling you, painting laminate is hard work, I seriously WILL NOT paint another piece of laminate again! (I will be eating those words)

After painting everything I sanded it down.
I HIGHLY recommend Minwax's finishing poly! I waited a few weeks before I applied it and the pieces had already started to have paint chipping and peeling- so I touched it up and sealed it with the Minwax and it has been PERFECT! No chipping or peeling what-so-ever!

I will show you the rest on another day! :)

That's Life

Sorry for my sporadic posts lately... I have lost my decorating and project finishing mojo. Also, life has become quite busy and overwhelming.

These last couple days have been a roller-coaster of emotions. My aunt and uncle were involved in a horrible car accident and things have been touch and go for my aunt. These type of situations always seem to make me grateful for my family and friends. Life is so fragile, we need to cherish the moments we have with loved ones. I'm grateful for my loving husband and sweet little boy. Things get hard from time to time but overall we have a pretty full life.

I will work on posting more projects as I have TONS I need to finish. My main project right now is finishing our downstairs bathroom... I have been putting a lot of energy into my home cake decorating business so my bathroom has taken the back burner for a bit. But, I will show you some pictures of what it looked like and currently looks like:

The gold... UGLY! Not sure yet what I will do with the light fixture- spray paint maybe?

And Now:

This is bead board wallpaper- I love that it is so cheap and easy to apply, plus you can paint it! You can get it at Lowes.  I will add a the chair rail next...

I also put some bead board wallpaper on the cabinet like i did in my kitchen. It's a cheap easy facelift.

I hope I can get the energy to finish this never ending project...  Thank you for being so kind and leaving sweet comments. I read each and every one of them and truly appreciate them!

Fabric Flowers

I'm obsessed... I found a great tutorial online for fabric flowers and I can't seem to get enough of them! I need to make TONS more but for right now these are where I have put them to use:

My next project for these will be for my bathroom shower curtain, it is very plain and these flowers will be just perfect for it! I'll post pictures for that project when I get to it on another day! :)

The Versatile Blogger Award

I was given my very first award today here in blogland by Judy @ DIY By Design, thank you so much Judy! Go check out her blog- she always has such fun inspirational posts!

image

The rules are:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you the award
2. Answer 10 questions
3. Pass it along to 7 blogs you've recently discovered and enjoy
4. Leave your recipients a note, telling them about the award

And the 10 questions are:

1. Why did you create this blog?
Honestly? To spare my poor friends on Facebook from constantly seeing all of my posts and pictures about my latest projects. If I were my friend I would get tired of it... ;) Also, because I wanted to inspire others to beautify their homes.
2. What kinds of blogs do you follow?
Furniture refinishing, Home decorating, DIY Crafting, Cooking, and Cake Decorating, I also follow a few deal finding blogs too.
3. Favorite make-up brand?
MAC and Mary Kay, odd combination huh? If I had buckets of money I would probably use JUST MAC but I love the foundation from Mary Kay and it's very affordable and works great for my skin.

                                4. Favorite clothing brand?
I don't really do the whole "Brand" thing. Usually it's just what I can find that's affordable and comfy. I do love my jeans from American Eagle. But honestly, I've bought my jeans at Wal-Mart too- Don't judge! ;)
5. Indispensable makeup product?
My foundation from Mary Kay.
6. Favorite color?
I change my favorite color all the time- right now it is light gray/ blue.
7. Favorite perfume?
Twilight Woods from Bath and Body Works. Or Lovespell from Victoria Secret
8. Favorite film?
It's a tie between The Notebook and Ps. I Love You. I'm such a girl.
9. What country would you like to visit and why?
I would LOVE to go to Paris, It just seems so romantic.
10. Would you rather forget to put mascara on one eye or forget blush on one side of your face?
Definitely blush.

Now for the 7 blogs I’ve recently discovered.
I love each and every one of these blogs, they inspire me- please check them out!

Free Mirror

4 Years ago I got a free mirror and spray painted it black. It was a bluish green color- after it being black for about 2 years I decided I wanted it to be white and distressed. Here is the before:

I removed the mirror...

And here it is, painted white and distressed. Much better...

And here is where it hangs, eventually I would LOVE to find some old wooden shutters and hang them on either side. No luck finding any so far...
