Spray Painted Ceramic Dishes

Quite a while ago I wrote a post on Shelves for the Kitchen and I showed you some dishes I bought at D.I. for a STEAL I "Think" I paid $5.00 for the set. The only problem was that they were super U.G.L.Y. They needed an update, the answer? Spray paint! :)

So here they are in all of their 70's glory:

I got a little hasty with the spray painting so I don't have a before picture of all of them in their original form. I'm sure you can understand ;)

After a few coats of RustOleum glossy white they were perfect!

After:

Publishers Note: These are purely for decoration. I do NOT intend on using them for any food uses. Last I checked spray paint is still toxic to consume. ;)

  9. What a great idea! Are the dishes food safe or just for decoration? I LOVE Rustoleum spray paint. I use it on everything.

  10. The dishes look great, but can you eat out of them after you paint them or is it just for looks only?

  17. I love your blog, and I love all the things you do, I get so inspired!

I wanted to mention though that rustoleum has lead so those little beauties aren't food safe. Great idea for decoration though - so cute!

  18. Yay! Thank you so much for showing it can be done! I just bought a bunch of plates at Goodwill this weekend to do the exact same thing, then started to second guess myself and tell myself it can't be done. So glad I found your post! You just boosted my confidence in my own project!

  19. Thanks for the idea! I have a beautiful tea set of my grandmother's that sits in storage because I don't drink tea and it doesn't go with my decor (too delicate looking). I think I may just spray paint it and display it! It seems abominable to paint an heirloom, but which is better, painting it and enjoying it on display or it sitting in a box and never being seen? (I do use the coordinating dishes, so I can preserve their original look).
