The Wooden Box Project

I showed you a wood box that my hubby bought for me here and I didn't really know what I would do with it at first. I thought about using it as a flower box for my porch or maybe just putting shoes in it. Then I decided that I would paint it and put some potted plants in it-- here is the before picture:

 I dry brushed some white paint on it, sanded it down and now it fills an empty dead space above the living room. I quite like it. Total cost for this project was $3.00

{Great Finds Part II}

DI. That's the spot where I find most of my little treasures. Here's just a few of some of my favorite finds:

This goblet had the original price tag on it $39.95 and I scored it for $2.00

My hubby picked up this wood box for $3.00- he thought I would like it--- I'll show you what I did with it tomorrow.

This pretty little pitcher was $1.50

This old rusted pail was a $.50 It was love at first sight!

HELP!

So, my sweet husband (I mean Santa) brought me a wonderful desktop computer and the In-laws gave us 12 months of internet for Christmas. I know what you are thinking---- WHAT? How did I manage to go 3 WHOLE years without internet? It sucked I tell ya, BIG time! But, I survived.

The past 3 days I have been searching everywhere for a small desk in decent condition with character--- I found the perfect desk for my new desktop. The KSL ad said that she had bought it used over 40 years ago. She also had a beautiful wood chair with a leather pad on it that she was throwing in with it. As soon as I saw the two, I HAD to have them. I called her and told her my husband would be there right away. He picked them up for $40 dollars (chair included!). 

After inspecting our purchase I noticed that it has the same sticker inside the drawer as my antique buffet! The brand is: Built by John since 1891. I am very curious about this brand, I have looked everywhere online and can't seem to find very many credible sources that can give me a value on it. So far all I can figure is that the pieces date back somewhere between the early 1920's to 1930's. I love LOVE LOVE this desk but I can't seem to decide what color to paint it. My husband likes the black, not sure if I do though.

Here is where I need some help!

Take a good look at this picture and tell me what color best represents this piece and its era. I plan to keep all of the original hardware on it- I may spray paint it but I like the pulls- so they stay. 
What do you ladies think? 
Also, if anyone knows ANYTHING more about this brand or maker please tell me! I am very curious!

Candle Votive

I had a certain look in my mind of what I wanted our master bedroom to look like... Shabby Chic with a touch of coastal charm. So this fall we threw together a yard sale and I sold all of my decor that wasn't fitting my newfound decorating style. It felt SO good to get rid of junk! I highly recommend this route!-- And everything that was left over went to the Scouts (they were collecting items for a fund raising yard sale)

After I cleaned out my house it was time to fill it right back up again! ;) 

I was looking for a candle votive that didn't scream "Old lady" so I went to D.I and I found the PERFECT votive! 

For a $1.50

 I would have left it black, but my furniture is black so it needed to be something else. I spray painted it white, put some candles from Ikea in it with some decorative rock and I had me a nice candle votive!

The Master Bedroom Reveal

I've been wanting to reveal my bedroom makeover for some time, but I've been having an inner struggle. I love everything about my room except for one tiny thing... The color! I finished painting my accent wall and what do you know? It's insanely BRIGHT! I was going for more of a calming coastal blue color and thats definitely NOT what happened. I must say as time goes on I am learning to like it more--- BUT, I already got my paint mixed and as soon as I get up the energy the wall will be RE-painted. Am I insane? Yes. Do many of you do this or is it just me?? I get all excited about a color then when it's up it looks COMPLETELY different! Oh well, live and learn.

I made a few changes to some things in the room. Like the pictures above the bed- I hot glued some thick black ribbon on the backs of them and hung them - It really helped make the frames seem less modern. And then... Silly me... I bought a comforter online, put it on my bed and decided it was SOOOO NOT the look I was going for... So it went back.

 AND THEN....

Well, I work at Target (in the bakery) and on my breaks I occasionally go through the store searching for sweet deals and I found the PERFECT comforter and the price? On clearance for $20 dollars!!! The brand is the "
Shabby Chic" collection by Target- I almost NEVER go through that section because I promised myself I would NEVER spend more than $50 dollars on a comforter...and those comforters are NOT cheap. But low and behold? This little beauty was sitting there waiting for ME! It was meant to be for sure. The original price was $99.00. I also found a down throw on clearance for $15.00 and the ruffled pillows? Well... Combined they were the price of the comforter. Haha.

I will paint that wall AGAIN and do a couple more changes to the room and show you the results. So stay tuned!

The 18,600 Pound Sewing Cabinet

I inherited a sewing cabinet from my husbands Grandma- it wasn't hers but whoever had it asked that it stayed in the family. First of all. This thing weighs more than an elephant! Its ridiculously heavy and (it can't be very old, maybe late 70's) the darn sewing machine inside it doesn't even work. I like the cabinet and I've seriously thought of taking the sewing machine out of it and using the cabinet as a cute little storage table... But we'll see. I'm not sure if I would get in trouble if I pull it all apart like that. I was tired of the color of it and decided that I wanted it to be white. So, BIG SURPRISE--- I painted it! ;) Nothing in my house stays the same for long. So if anyone gives me something they probably shouldn't be too attached to how it looked when they gave it to me. My husband has come to terms with me and my crazy painting/decorating ways. That is true love right there. 

 It only had two of four pulls when  I got it so I took off the old ones and replaced them

I'm Back! (Laundry Room Plaque)

Hello fellow bloggers,

    I'm sorry for the long absence. I have been on a month long vacation from blogger- we traveled to Idaho for Thanksgiving and spent a VERY snowy holiday with family and friends. It was a very nice break. I came back with some great projects and I'm very excited to show you! 

First: I made a laundry room sign yesterday that turned out better than I was expecting, and I'm mighty proud of it myself! ;)

I sort of don't want to tell anyone my little secret... I stumbled upon a section in IKEA that is in the clearance/AS IS area. There were TONS of cupboard doors of all colors, shapes and sizes-- I scored two cupboard doors for .89 cents each! I instantly knew exactly what I was going to do with them! I've wanted to put a little "love" in my laundry room for quite some time and this was the perfect project to push me. A couple weeks ago I bought a laundry room vinyl at a local Holy Cow boutique that comes around every 6 months or so.

I bought this cute pull at Target (I plan on using these in many projects)

 

I taped off my borders and painted the inner area a soft warm green color that I love (It is now in my living room too)

I hot glued a white ribbon to the back of the board (I also glued the pull too- the screws didn't fit and I figured it was just aesthetic anyway!)...

Then I adhered the vinyl. This project didn't even take 30 minutes to do, paint drying included! It was super fast!

Someday I will make my laundry room cute like all of the blogs I see but for now this is as good as it gets! ;)
